Consumer Reports Rules: Tip-of-the-Day #69
![]() LET THE EXPERTS DO YOUR HOMEWORK FOR YOU Why go through all the work of researching what products are "top dog" when Consumer Reports has already done the work for you? Yes, there is a cost associated with subscription, but for $5.95/mo. (or $26 for the year) it can be worth it. Whenever I'm in the market for a big purchase (car, computer, or any home appliance) I subscribe to Consumer Reports. I do this because it makes my life much easier and I can feel confident the purchase I'm making is a sound one. Just recently I needed to buy a new vacuum cleaner. My boyfriend, having grown up with a mother with very good taste, was convinced we had to buy a Miele. Those puppies start at $400. There was no way I was going to drop that on a vacuum cleaner unless it also washed my laundry. So, I went to Consumer Reports and found that while the Miele was definitely top ten material, so was the Hoover that was rated #3 and cost a mere $69! Of course I bought the Hoover and for the $5.95 that I dropped on my one-month subscription to Consumer Reports, I still came out $325.05 ahead!
